Overview
A petrol direct-injection high pressure fuel pump offered against two OEM references for Gen V V8 applications. Supplied as a replacement high pressure fuel pump for the GM L87 6.2L EcoTec3 V8 and the closely related Gen V 6.2L applications noted below. This listing covers the component described here only; hardware such as bolts, seals and gaskets is included only where the specification list says so.
Function
On a direct-injection engine the high pressure fuel pump raises rail pressure far above what a conventional port-injection system uses, so that fuel can be injected late in the compression stroke. A failing pump usually presents as long cranking, a lean or rich bank, a pressure-deviation fault, misfires under load or a sudden loss of power. Because the pump is driven off the camshaft, a worn follower or cam lobe can produce the same symptoms as a failed pump.
Specifications as documented
- Component: High pressure fuel pump
- OEM part number: 12711662; 12744840
- Cross-reference: The two OEM numbers are presented as interchangeable by the supplier
- Engine: 6.2L Gen V V8 direct injection (GDI)
- Model years: Not stated in captured listing data
- Package contents: 1 x high pressure fuel pump (seals and bolts not confirmed as included)
Compatibility
Engine: 6.2L Gen V V8 direct injection (GDI). Vehicle applications recorded for this part: Cadillac applications as stated by supplier (title truncated). Model years: Not stated in captured listing data. OEM reference: 12711662; 12744840. Fitment status recorded at the time of listing: supplier-declared oem numbers - l87 rpo confirmation outstanding.
Installation
Fuel system work on a direct-injection engine requires the pressure to be released correctly before any line is opened. Fit new seals, keep the working area scrupulously clean, and check the drive follower and cam lobe for wear at the same time. Relearn or clear fuel pressure adaptations after fitting and verify rail pressure against specification.
Fitment notice
Compatibility is stated for the GM L87 6.2L EcoTec3 V8 on the strength of the supplier listing and, where an OEM number is published, a parts-catalogue cross-check. GM built the 6.2L V8 in several forms, and L86, LT1, LT2 and LT4 components are not automatically interchangeable with L87 parts. Before ordering, confirm the engine RPO code and the original part number against the vehicle, and treat this listing as a guide rather than a substitute for that check. Specialist engine repairs should be carried out by a qualified technician.
